- Does Formal AI Training Produce More Learning-Oriented Users? An empirical paper asking whether people who receive formal AI training use these tools in a more learning-oriented way — building understanding — rather than simply offloading the work. Introduces a Learning Orientation Index and tests it across user populations.
- cambodia & vietnamI loop around Ha Giang with a big group; I head to Cambodia with Pablo afterwards. On motorcycles, unexpectedly common languages, (sweetened) coffee, global and narrow tourism, the spa, Indiana Jones, crossing the road as an art form, and Angkor Wat.
- hong kongI “study” abroad in Hong Kong, where most of my time was not spent studying or in Hong Kong. On transience, friendship, Godel’s theorem, applying for jobs, LinkedIn, HYROX, beaches, mountains, and the greatest city in the world.
- hackubaWithout knowing anyone else on the trip, I “apply” for a group “hackathon” to Guatemala, the second edition of the original one that took place in Hakuba, Japan. On motorcycles, Fred again, coffee, mountains, veganism, college personality, friendship, community, Spanish, and profound effects on my future.
2025I began the year with a short flight back to Chapel Hill — all settled in — and a longer flight to Taiwan, where things became increasingly unsettled. I returned and explored Chapel Hill — again allowing things to settle each time — with a few interludes in the Middle East, on the West Coast, and finally in Guatemala. On reading in the morning, fishing sunglasses, what personal change is meant to feel like, efforts against elitism, efforts towards elitism, and a lake.
- eats101I took the best class at UNC, the accurately named EATS101, as a sophomore. I ate at weekly dinner parties, discussed the role food played in society, and gained fifteen new best friends. On long conversations, my continued sobriety, various previous and future escapades, life in college, and a new understanding of Asian Americanism.
- semester threeI paused in the middle of the semester and looked around me. On masculinity, urban monoculture, body and mind, Gracie Abrams, Yukio Mishima, and cacti.
